What is Tantra—and what is it not?

Tantra is far more than just sexuality. It is a spiritual system from India that encompasses the body, emotions, mind, and soul. At its core are meditation, Hatha Yoga, philosophy, and the exploration of how to discover the sacred in everyday life—in relationships, at work, in nature, and even during difficult moments. It is important to note that the retreats presented here teach traditional Tantra. The concept of "sacred, pure Eros" refers to a conscious, respectful form of sensuality, which is explored through lectures and practical exercises.

Tantra Immersion in Chiang Mai: the four levels at a glance

The Tantra Immersion is a multi-level series. Each level builds on the previous one, so you cannot simply join at Level 3. The day starts with hatha yoga and meditation, followed by lectures, interactive exercises and Q&A sessions, with time to eat and rest in between.

Tantra Immersion Level 1: the introduction

An introduction to the philosophy and history of tantra, the law of resonance, the principle of polarity (Shiva and Shakti) and the path of love. You also practise hatha yoga, silent meditation and meditations with music. Level 1 is open to everyone and is the prerequisite for Level 2.

Tantra Immersion Level 2: going deeper

You get to know Kashmir Shaivism as the core of tantra, deepen the art of polarity and explore the nature of consciousness, the path of Shakti and partnership in tantra. Level 1 is required.

Tantra Immersion Level 3: practical esoteric tantra

Topics include the tantric scriptures, death and life after death, the meaning of life, conscious touch, and pleasure, pain and freedom. Levels 1 and 2 are required.

Tantra Immersion Level 4: kundalini and Mahavidya

The fourth level focuses on energy work and kundalini, Mahavidya as the feminine path of wisdom, meditation and expanding consciousness. Levels 1 to 3 are required.

Silent retreats for the turn of the year

If you would rather start the new year in silence, you will find two consecutive silent retreats at the same place. The silence here is not isolating: subtle interactive exercises, shared presence and a daily written Q&A round accompany you. The teachings draw on the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, the Tantraloka and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

Learn tantra and yoga online

Cannot travel to Thailand? The two ongoing online courses are a good alternative. Classes are held live via Zoom, and recordings help if you miss one. A single class costs 500 THB (about €13).

The place: Amrita Integral Yoga Centre near Chiang Mai

San Kamphaeng lies east of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Transport from and to the centre of Chiang Mai on the first and last day is included in the retreats. You choose your room type, from a dorm to a deluxe room.

Frequently asked questions about a tantra retreat in Thailand

Do I need prior experience?

Not for Level 1 and the New Year Silent Retreat. The further levels and Module 2 build on each other.

How much does a tantra retreat in Chiang Mai cost?

From €229 to €286, depending on the retreat and room type. Included are the course fee, accommodation, three vegetarian meals a day and transport from and to the city centre.

Are there any sexual practices?

No. The host teaches traditional tantra without sexual activities.

Can I attend several levels in a row?

Yes. Levels 2 to 4 follow each other directly in February 2027. If you attend Level 1 in January, you can continue right afterwards.

When is the best time to travel?

December to February is the dry, pleasantly mild season in northern Thailand.
